65th Quebec Peewee Tournament, Canada

(February 15-22, 2025)

Our HK Typhoons Selects U13 Team participated in the 65th Quebec Peewee Tournament in February 2025, an event renowned for its exceptional organisation and high-calibre competition.  Despite minimal rest following travel, our players displayed impressive resilience in their opening game, setting the tone for the tournament. In exhibition games against an AA Elite division team, we not only gained crucial experience against top-tier competition but also secured a notable victory, a testament to our program’s continued development.

Tournament play saw our team deliver one of its most complete performances to date with a commanding 5-0 victory over Atlantic Selects. This dominant win set up a highly anticipated rematch against the Halifax Mooseheads, who had previously defeated us in last year’s tournament. Our preparation for this matchup was meticulous, including detailed video analysis and live scouting. The resulting performance was arguably our strongest of the season, as we controlled play territorially, generated numerous high-quality chances, and significantly outshot our opponents. While the 3-2 loss was difficult to accept given our strong play, it served as an important lesson in hockey’s sometimes unforgiving nature and the acceptable margins at elite levels of competition.

Beyond the on-ice results, the tournament provided significant developmental value. Our players gained exposure to different styles of play, with opponents employing relentless pressure and physical tactics that demanded constant adaptation. The experience reinforced crucial lessons about maintaining composure, executing under pressure, and converting opportunities – areas we will emphasise in upcoming training sessions.

We return from Quebec with both pride in our team’s progress and clear objectives for continued improvement. The tournament has once again proven an invaluable benchmark for our program, highlighting both our competitive capabilities and the work still ahead.
