ABOUT THE TYPHOONS

The Hong Kong Typhoons is a non-profit organization that has served the Hong Kong youth ice hockey community for almost 30 years. From a small partnership of parents, we have grown into the largest youth ice hockey association in Hong Kong.

Key Facts

  • We operate the nowTV City League, the youth ice hockey league in Hong Kong with the greatest depth and breadth of participation by kids in Hong Kong. As a result, we offer the most competitive hockey to kids in Hong Kong and the best opportunities for development that come from good competition.
  • We operate the Hong Kong Selects, the premier competitive ice hockey programme in Hong Kong.  Our Hong Kong Selects teams travel around the Asia Pacific Region and the rest of the world. Our teams have competed in the Quebec PeeWee tournament, the most significant U12 tournament anywhere in the world.
  • Our kids have gone on to leading schools in Canada and the United States where they continue to play hockey. Our training programmes have been instrumental in developing the skills of kids to the point where today, many of our kids have gone on to play AAA ice hockey in North America.

Mission

The mission of the Hong Kong Typhoons is as follows:

  • to provide a safe and fun environment for kids to play ice hockey
  • to use hockey to teach life skills, such as discipline and teamwork
  • to use ice hockey to provide opportunities for kids in education and in life

Governance

We are incorporated as a company limited by guarantee. We are led by volunteers but employ professional ice coaches. Unlike other organizations, there are no avenues for our leadership to profit from us.

We have an active parents association to provide input and we welcome parents to work with us to enhance opportunities for kids.
